The Hakrinbank app for iOS and Android puts the bank at your fingertips for free. It gives Hakrinbank customers 24/7 mobile access to their accounts in Dutch and English. In addition to real-time info on balances, transactions and locations of branches and ATMs, the app also allows users to view items such as mortgages and loans, and download statement summaries of (joint) checking accounts, savings accounts and credit cards. Users can also use the app to block their debit cards, transfer amounts in various currencies directly to their own accounts as well as make local and international payments to third parties.
Results
The app was downloaded more than 14,000 times in the first two weeks. At the time of writing, the number of Android downloads sits at 13,000 and the number of iOS downloads at 5,300. Users are super enthusiastic, rating the app with an average of 4.8 stars in the AppStore and 4.3 stars in the Play Store. Safe onboarding, safe use
To ensure that clients can (continue to) use the app securely, a one-time video call is part of the onboarding process. In it, Hakrinbank employees ask clients to identify themselves with a passport or ID card. After this identity verification, login is only possible with multi-factor authentication based on facial recognition or fingerprint. This keeps personal information private and protected.

Mobile banking & customization
The sentiment among app users proves that patience is a virtue. Although the Hakrinbank was the first Surinamese party to offer internet banking, the mobile banking piece has taken a bit longer to arrive. This has to do with the choice for a customized solution. Many other Surinamese banks work with standard packages and apps connected to the same old, complex hinterland as the core banking system. Personalization options here are often limited to logos and corporate colors. A fast and expensive solution, where the calls between backend and frontend are often slow and do not offer the information customers need.
Native development
The native Hakrinbank app communicates with the core banking systems via an intermediate layer customized by Move. This allowed us to completely design the presentation layer to Hakrinbank's requirements, giving the app the true native feel. This deliberate choice for customization gives Hakrinbank freedom of movement on multiple fronts. For example, the bank can continue to add new features and eventually offer cross-sell products. This makes the app deployable for multiple roadmaps and business cases.
