For one day, our office in Zwolle was the place to be for kids aged 6 to 12. Generation Alpha, the Google Kids. For this user group we organized a test event for a new app we are working on. In two hours we delved into the brains of this fascinating 24/7 generation who are mega spoiled in terms of user experience. We temporarily transformed our office into a kid-proof test lab, including a ball pit and popcorn machine.
For a currently 'secret' client, we are in the final stages of the development process of a keigave app that will be provided with an updated look and feel, navigation and feature set. The user group, kids aged 6 to 12, is a generation that is already quite digital savvy because they grew up with smartphones and tablets. They are used to the mobile experience of high-end apps like Tiktok, Instagram, Netflix and Snapchat. Quite a frame of reference you have to match as an app if you want to become as successful.
During the test event, we had the kids test the updated app extensively. We wanted to gain insight into the usability of the app. How do kids interact with the app and the devices? Are our thinking and designs right so far? How do they swipe and scroll, what meaning do they give to the emoji? Are the new features well received, are the flows kidsproof, how do they prefer to search and what attracts attention and what not? With all these (new) insights, we will be putting the finishing touches on the project in the coming period and we look forward confidently to the release in April!
