The latest edition of Move Insights was set up as a knowledge and inspiration session for twelve Product Owners of mobile apps. In one afternoon, they got to know each other, shared experiences and actively worked on themes involved in the development of high performance apps.
After the opening by our CCO Paul Fellinger, all Product Owners did a One Minute Pitch in which they introduced themselves, their position and the organization they work for. In the pitches they also briefly took the group through the why, how and what of their digital strategy. Then Stijn Bossink (Product Owner at Timing) and Ruben Spruit (Tech Lead at Rabobank) talked about their careers, their current positions and the projects they currently work on: the Timing app and the Rabobank Acorn app.
Dialogue and dynamics in the DMU
Trainer Tjeerd den Boer from Business Impact was present throughout the afternoon. He observed the attendees, took notes and drew out key themes and issues on the spot. This formed the basis of his stakeholder management workshop, with which he closed the event. Using theories, concrete examples and short role plays, Tjeerd created awareness of different communication styles (Leary) and their effect on the behavioral dynamics within the Decision Making Unit and within teams (Lencioni).
'We wanted to help Product Owners with knowledge, experience and training to do their jobs more successfully. After all the enthusiastic response, we're definitely going to follow it up.' - Paul Fellinger
Twelve unique stories
During the interaction moments after the talks and during the workshop, it became clear that many Product Owners share the same themes. For example, everyone agreed on the importance of agile working, an involved team that is included in the roadmap, insight into performance and the presence of a digital sparring partner. By contrast, the wide range of use cases also revealed clear differences. For example, experiences with a strong framework and freedom of action differed. One Product Owner swears by contact with the end user to determine the operation and innovation of the app, while for another this is not even an option. This led to interesting conversations, which continued enthusiastically during the networking drinks after the substantive program.
