A good sense of innovation, a solid foundation and hard work are the foundations for building the best app in the staffing industry. At least, if it is up to temporary employment giant Timing and digital agency Move4Mobile (now Move). With the help of the digital agency, the app was completely revamped within six months. The app is a strategic spearhead within Timing, enabling every flex worker to arrange everything around his or her work. Since the update, the app has grown rapidly in popularity and in a few months climbed from 2.0 stars to 4.5 stars in the App Stores.
Everything for the flex worker
Timing has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and is taking important steps in the area of professionalization. This includes the renewal of the app, which now occupies a central position organization-wide.
Leon Koppenol, Director Innovation & Technology at Timing: "We wanted to enrich our service towards our flex workers, make them feel that they matter, that they are appreciated and that they are of great importance to our customers. Communicating that to over 20,000 flex workers is quite a challenge; we cannot possibly be in constant contact with all our people. Technology can obviously never replace personal contact, but with an app we can ensure that all matters around work can be arranged easily and quickly. We can also ease the experience of important and exciting moments. When a flex worker starts their first day at work, we want them to already know their way around and start confidently. In this way, the app is a rock-solid channel to strengthen contact."
The importance of good partnership
Timing outsources a lot and knows better than anyone else what good partnerships require. A number of parties were invited to share a creative and strategic vision of how Timing could become the best app in the staffing industry. Move stood out. Leon: "We want to work with companies that go two steps harder, are committed to our goals and have creative ideas with an eye on the future. That innovative ability, determination and creativity splashes off at Move4Mobile. In addition, the cultural fit is important, that there is a click with the people we work with. That click was there from the very first moment."
Explosive rise in appreciation by flex workers
The app revamp led to a successful collaboration and is paying off. Leon: "There is a lot to be pleased about. If you look at the numbers in the App Stores, you look at an explosive increase in sincere appreciation from our flex workers. To think how we built this with Move in record time and that we are now in the list of 30 best apps in the Netherlands among such big names, that makes me really proud. The app is therefore no longer a stand-alone thing within our company, but really of strategic importance."
Achieving even greater success together in the future
In the future, Timing and Move will continue to work together to develop from the ground up. New strategic plans for this are already in place. Leon: "Already during the first pitch Move started talking about augmented reality, one of the features with which we have great plans in the (distant) future. In addition, the cooperation is very pleasant. Move's people do what they say, are transparent and proactively ask what could be improved. That gives a lot of confidence. We have already shared great successes and celebrate them with each other. That is why we are where we are today, and we are far from finished."
Move also looks confidently to the future. Lotte Nijland, Creative Strategist at Move: "In 2020 we laid the perfect foundation and from now on we are going to make really fat things. In our collaboration, we are working daily on the now, but we are also always looking ahead. For example, in 2021 we will focus more on retention. We will take on the challenge of using the app to easily offer the flex worker more work, other work or new work. In everything we do, customer-driven development is central."
